The Time has Come: Election 2008
November 3, 2008
It’s finally here (almost), the day we (and most of the world) have been waiting for.
I’m a voting virgin, I was 17 the last presidential time around, and have ended up with a pretty interesting first time.
A young, female, first-time voter, who works in “elite” Washington, D.C. – for a public affairs firm, no less- lives in Northern Virgina, aka “fake Virginia,” and was born and raised in “real Virginia.”
I’ve been watching pretty cautiously from the blogging sidelines and have been nothing short of impressed by the debate the bloggers on Brazen Careerist and others have stirred up. (e.g. Holly Hoffman and Milena Thomas)
At the very least, this has been the most entertaining election ever, from SNL skits, to priceless YouTube videos and creative Web design (more online highlights available at Mashable). When it’s all said and done, we’ll have a new president, a new administration and Congress, and a few new political faces that are not going away anytime soon. Not to mention, a large group of very angry, disgruntled losers.
This election has redefined campaigning, blurred the lines of celebrity and politics and riled up some seemingly apathetic segments of the population. If you think people have Obama/McCain fatigue now, this election isn’t going anywhere but into the history books.
My final pre-voting thought, is there any better way to influence democracy than junk food? If you’re not interested in voting for change or putting country first, vote to get some free food.
